Brief:
On an ad hoc basis, lead sales meetings with key industry buyers (including WH Smith Travel, Waterstone’s and Borders)Provide a weekly marketing consultancy service to the Director and marketing department
Input and advise on individual book titles, including:
- Jacket design
- Sales strategy
- Marketing strategy
- Publicity strategy
Result:
As with all consultation projects, the results were spread across a wide spectrum, and some were also of an intangible nature.Those that can be quantified include:
- Over 6 months, sales increased by 20%
- The revamp of basic sales materials, including Advance Information sheets, sales presenters and book proofs: which were commended by sales representatives as tools which assisted in achieving higher sales
- Successfully sold to, and negotiated with, booksellers: from the sale of backlist titles into general stock, to the securing of key promotional slots for frontlist titles
- Assisted staff team members in rationalising and reorganising publishing strategies in order to meet key industry deadlines, ensure quality of information supplied, improve the quality of communications with key buyers
- Advised upon and assisted the development of a regular email newsletter, in order to effectively communicate with key industry buyers, readers and the media
- Developed a working relationship with key industry buyers
